A timid feline arrived with her kittens in tow, hoping to begin a fresh new chapter in her life.
Phyllis the Cat, under the handle @bestfriendsfelines, found herself in a difficult situation when a supportive vet in Brisbane, AU reached out for help with a feline family in need. A mother cat and her seven tiny kittens had come into the care of Best Friends Felines, much to everyone’s surprise. Despite being petite, this mama cat was nurturing seven babies just over a week old.
Foster volunteer Jen stepped up to the plate and opened her loving home to the family of eight. They settled in comfortably, with Jen providing the care and support needed for Phyllis and her precious kittens.

It quickly became evident that Phyllis, the cat, was not a fan of people, as she cautiously observed them with distrustful eyes. It would take some time and patience to help her feel comfortable and start to trust again, but Jen was ready for the task.
Phyllis and her kittens were tucked away in a peaceful and snug corner. This spot offered them privacy while still allowing the foster family to keep an eye on them.
When she first entered foster care, she was incredibly timid.

Her mothering skills were unquestionable. Taking care of seven hungry little ones was a demanding task. She only left her bed briefly to eat and use the restroom before returning to her nest.
A significant progress was made a week later when they found her favorite treat. Jen began hand-feeding Phyllis to develop a bond gradually.
On the @bestfriendsfelines account, it was noted that Phyllis has become more social since being around them. Although there are still some moments of hissing, the best feelings come from her purring and the occasional kiss. Jeannette shared this heartwarming update.
Phyllis was relieved to have her meals served to her four times a day, removing the worry of where her next meal would come from. She eagerly ate every bite to keep up with her demanding appetite.

“She doesn’t really get much time to herself, with so many kittens usually at least one is awake.”
With the help and support of Jen, Phyllis began to feel more at ease around others. She even found herself taking some time away from her kittens as they became more energetic and curious.

Once the kittens were fully weaned, they transformed into playful, independent bundles of energy, expertly using litter trays. Phyllis would observe them from the sidelines as they dashed around their play area, enthusiastically climbing anything within reach. With some extra time on her hands, Phyllis also joined in the fun, enjoying the entertainment of watching the kittens eagerly tune into their own version of “bird TV”.

Phelis has recently embraced the thrill of playing – she adores toys, climbing structures, treats, and simply dashing around the house for fun. A variety of toys brings her immense joy as she gracefully pounces, bats, and tackles them in the most delightful manner,” Jen revealed.
With her newfound confidence, Phyllis was once again relishing in playtime like a kitten. She was ready to step away from motherhood and fully embrace being the carefree cat she had always dreamed of being.

As the kittens grew big enough for adoption, one by one, they found loving homes. Phyllis patiently waited for her forever family while she continued to discover interesting aspects of household life.
She grew intrigued by the hustle and bustle in the kitchen, often joining her humans and offering her own “critiques,” all the while hoping to sneak a snack.

“She loves to chat and has the most adorable meows as she explores the house,” Jen commented.
“Phyllis arrived with her seven little kittens in tow. Over time, she grew more comfortable with indoor living, hoping for someone special to come and adopt her.”
@bestfriendsfelines
When Amelia met Phyllis, she instantly knew that there was more to her than just a shy exterior. She could see the potential for a sweet, loving cat just waiting to be unleashed. Opening her home and her heart to Phyllis, Amelia welcomed her into the family with open arms.
“I truly believe that Phyllis has the capacity to become an incredibly affectionate cat.”
